Marker for the Port Washinton Road in Clark Township, Holmes County,
just outside Millersburg. Farmers brought their grain and produce by
wagon to Port Washington to be shipped on the canal.
The Port Washington Road also went through Baltic, where there is a
large historical marker telling of the road’s importance.
A street marker, located along Port Washinton’s main street, with the
former Opera House in the background, shows where Port Washington Road
was located.
Taken from the Price House register were advertisements for Howard’s
Uncle Tom’s Cabin Co. and J.G. Glasgow Circus New Olympic Show.
Performers from both shows stayed at the hotel when they performed at
Port Washington’s Opera House in 1894.
The Exchange Hotel at Port Washinton, taken in the early 1900s. It was
one of two hotels in the village. Seated in front are Louise Stocker
(L), daughter, Jane, and her husband, Henry, who owned the hotel.
